History of the breed. Abondance is a meat-dairy breed of cattle that originated in the high mountain valleys of Upper Savoy, in the province of Chablais, located in France. Initially, the breed was called "Chablais" or "Chablaisien," and was later renamed Abondance. This breed is adapted to harsh conditions and temperature fluctuations, and is raised in mountainous areas. Abondance cattle are medium-sized, with bulls typically larger than cows; the average height of females can reach 130 cm, while males can reach 170 cm. Abondance are very hardy animals, requiring little special care, and are resistant to various diseases. They are a versatile breed raised for both milk and meat production. The world-famous Abondance cheese is made from the milk of this breed. Currently, there are 150,000 head of Abondance cattle in France, and they are exported to various countries such as Iraq, New Zealand, North America, and Africa. Exterior. The coat color of Abondance is chestnut-red or golden-brown, with a large body, straight back, and wide chest; the legs are white. The hair on the head is white, the ears are red, and there are spectacles-like spots around the eyes, along with small horns. Males are significantly larger than females, with the height at the withers for bulls being 170 cm and weight ranging from 600 to 850 kg, while the height at the withers for cows is 130 cm and weight ranges from 500 to 700 kg. The udder of cows is cup-shaped and well-developed, which contributes to high milk yields. Housing conditions. Abondance are very hardy and can easily tolerate low temperatures, adapting to any climate. They are kept in stalls for 6-8 months, and the rest of the time they graze in pastures. Animals should be able to move freely in the stall, and access to clean water is essential. Stalls must be clean and dry, and fresh air should be readily available. In the process of caring for cows, it is important to pay attention to the condition of their coat, teeth, and hooves. Regular health checks for diseases are an integral part of their care. Abondance are not picky about feed, and their digestive system can process coarsely ground feed. Direction.
